Climate Change & Sustainable Supply Chain in Vietnam

SPD Climate Change Series #2 + Time: November 25, 2023  + Venue: University of Economics and Finance + Language: Vietnamese + Facilitator: Duyen Le + Trang Nguyen + Mary Dam + Speaker: Ms. Nguyễn Thị Bích Diệp – Founder & CEO, Greensys Corporation

The SPD Workshop Series is a recurring workshop series held every three months with the goal of changing students' perceptions of climate change and sustainable development.

Program Agenda:

  • 1pm - 4pm : Climate Fresk Workshop – An interactive session where participants explore the causes and impacts of climate change through a collaborative game-based approach.

  • Final Hour: Guest Speaker Presentation – A talk on "Sustainable Supply Chain in Vietnam," followed by a Q&A session, providing insights into sustainability-driven career paths and industry trends.

Climate Fresk

Based on reports from the IPCC, the workshop addressed key questions such as why and how climate change is occurring at its current rate and the consequences of these changes. The event provided participants with an opportunity to learn a significant amount in a short time, making it particularly suitable for beginners—especially students majoring in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at UEF.

The workshop attracted numerous students eager to learn about environmental and transportation issues. Utilizing an interactive game and group discussions, participants engaged with 42 cards, each representing a topic, cause, or impact of climate change.

Guided by four facilitators from the nonprofit organization Climate Fresk, students worked in groups to uncover the causal links between different aspects of climate change. Many were surprised by the interconnections between these factors.

🧩 UEFers collaborate to decode challenging climate puzzles🗣️ "Connecting knowledge" – UEFers gradually uncover the answers behind each card

The open and collaborative spirit of the workshop encouraged students to respect each other’s opinions while engaging in group discussions and direct cooperation—the key to successfully deciphering each clue and developing a strong scientific understanding of climate change.

Beyond Learning: Proposing Real-World Solutions

The workshop went beyond just understanding climate change; UEFers were encouraged to propose solutions to protect the environment based on their personal aspirations. Some ideas included:

  • Fundraising for tree planting

  • Raising awareness and education on environmental issues

  • Reducing single-use plastics

  • Saving electricity and water

  • Adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle

Sustainable Supply Chain

At the end of the workshop, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Bích Diệp delivered a thought-provoking talk on “Sustainable Supply Chains.” She encouraged students to actively seek new knowledge and emphasized:

"Investing in education is the most sustainable investment with the greatest impact." Environmental issues remain a global hot topic. As technology advances, humans—whether intentionally or unintentionally—continue to have negative impacts on the environment, most visibly seen through climate change.

MSc. Trần Hoàng Nam shared a crucial insight: "There is no single 'right' solution—only the most suitable one."

Thus, finding, proposing, and implementing timely and relevant solutions remains a significant challenge, requiring students to continuously learn and update their knowledge.

This workshop has undoubtedly helped UEF students understand the causes and consequences of climate change, sustainable supply chain development in Vietnam, and the importance of sustainability awareness.

📢 Stay tuned for the next exciting topic in the SPD Workshop Series! 🚀
